Murals
From canvas art pieces to permanent wall murals, Writerz Blok artists have the ability to add a fresh, modern, urban look to any space. Their pool of multi-styled artists work with large and small clients to create visual stories or images that suit any need. Writerz Blok clients include Qualcomm, The California Endowment, the San Diego Museum of Art, and the Westfield Shopping Center at Horton Plaza.
Urban Apparel & Gifts
Writerz Blok’s urban clothing line offers one-of-a-kind designs, as well as limited edition collections including T-shirts, tank tops, hats, and more. The Blok has added a line of signature gift items like mugs, caps, mouse pads, and tiles. The edgy designs make great gifts for both youth and adults.
Graphic Design & Printing
The Blok has truly found a niche as an affordable, yet professional provider of print and graphic design services. Working with large and small organizations, Writerz Blok helps clients create powerful visual impact through print and other collateral materials. The Blok’s print line includes business cards, flyers, posters, banners, and more.
Paint & Supplies
The Blok has expanded its in-store product line to include everything an artist needs to complete his or her work. Sketch books, paint, and tips can now be conveniently purchased on-site. The Blok also helps its artists take their work “off the wall” through digital photography and Photoshop services.
Workshops & Classes
Writerz Blok has developed after-school classes and workshops for youth that include muralism, screenprinting, the history of graffiti art, and DJ-ing. In fact, schools have integrated these courses into their curriculum as a way to create relevant art experiences for students and discourage vandalism, tagging, and gang activity. Students work collectively to create vibrant murals and art pieces for their schools. To date, Writerz Blok has held classes with Morse, Mark Twain, High Tech, Lincoln, Hoover, Sweetwater, Madison, and Crawford High Schools.
Youth Community Service
Writerz Blok partners with San Diego Police Department and San Diego Unified School District to provide meaningful community service opportunities. More than 200 youth annually spend between 20-35 hours alongside Writerz Blok staff learning life skills and responsibility while performing maintenance on the yard, graffiti removal, and other small jobs in the art department, store, or office.
Art Park Consultations
Like-minded organizations have visited the site and been inspired to establish a Writerz Blok in their own communities. Staff from the Blok have been invited to provide technical assistance on beginning the process in other cities. The Blok’s leadership plans to expand their social mission to these and other cities (local, national, and international), promoting safe and creative environments for urban and graffiti artists.
Restoration, Maintenance, & Abatement (Coming Soon)
As Writerz Blok has grown in visibility and recognition, public and private sector clients throughout San Diego are beginning to partner with them to restore and maintain mural artwork, as well as remove unwanted tagging. As the need increases, the staff is developing a service plan to provide clients with monthly graffiti-removal options, weekly check-in visits, and removal of unwanted tagging in a timely fashion. Writerz Blok can also help prevent illegal tagging by replacing blank walls with beautiful murals.
